Using filters and plug-ins

Filters on the Xtras menu help improve and enhance your images. Fireworks includes many new image editing filters. You can adjust the contrast and brightness, the hue and color saturation, and the tonal range.

In addition, you can blur or sharpen an image and give an image a unique look by colorizing it or inverting the colors. But you are not limited to these filters. You can also add Photoshop plug-ins to the Xtras menu.

The filters on the Xtras menu are used primarily for bitmap images, such as a photograph. However, you can also apply them to path objects. Applying an Xtra filter to a path object converts the object to an image.

Filters and plug-ins applied using the Xtras menu are reversible only if the Undo command is available. Use the Xtras menu to apply filters when you are sure you do not want to edit or reverse the filters. For instance, if you adjust the contrast and brightness to improve an image, it is unlikely that you will need to edit or remove the filter.
